Since its inception, International Women's Day has opened up a new world for women in developed and developing countries alike. With the growing international women's movement, strengthened through the four United Nations global conferences on women, the commemoration of International Women's Day has become a rallying cry for women's rights and their participation in political and economic affairs.

Is Women's Day a traditional Chinese festival?

Women's Day is not a traditional Chinese festival, but an international festival.
The origins of the movement are attributed to a series of major events in the women's movement in the early 20th century, including:
In 1909, American Socialists designated February 28 as National Women's Day; in 1910, at the Copenhagen Conference of the Second International, more than 100 women representatives from 17 countries, led by Clara Zetkin, planned to establish International Women's Day, but did not specify an exact date; on March 19, 1911, more than 1 million women in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and other countries gathered to celebrate International Women's Day; on the last Sunday of February 1913, Russian women celebrated their International Women's Day with demonstrations; on March 8, 1914, women in many European countries held anti-war demonstrations; on March 8, 1917 (February 23 in the Russian calendar), in order to commemorate the nearly 2 million Russian women who died in World War I, Russian women went on strike, which kicked off the "February Revolution". Four days later, the Tsar was forced to abdicate and the provisional government announced that women would be granted the right to vote.
This series of feminist movements that took place in Europe and America in the early 20th century jointly contributed to the birth of International Women's Day.
