In which country did International Women's Day originate and when?
March 8th of every year is a day for women, namely Women's Day. Want to know more about International Women's Day? After the Spring Festival, the various festivals in the first month of the lunar calendar will soon follow. Following the 2021 first month special topic of Shuimoxiansheng.com, let’s count how many important traditional festivals and customs there are in this month.

The origin of Women's Day

The origin of International Women's Day can be attributed to a series of major women's movement events in the early 20th century, and it already had a certain prototype in the early 20th century.
From September 9 to 15, 1921, the Second International Conference of Communist Women was held in Moscow, with 82 representatives from 28 countries attending the conference. At the meeting, Bulgarian female communists suggested that March 8 of each year be designated as International Women's Day in order to commemorate the heroic struggle of Russian women workers in the February Revolution of 1917. The Second International Conference of Communist Women adopted this proposal and passed a resolution to designate March 8 as International Women's Day. This is how the International Women's Day was established.
Since then, proletarian women in various countries have celebrated their holiday in different forms every year on this day, but due to the development and changes of the times, their purpose is no longer just to fight for women's suffrage. Starting from 1922, the Soviet newspaper Pravda, the official publication of the Executive Committee of the Communist International, International News Bulletin, and the Communist International all opened special columns in March to introduce International Women's Day and the struggles, lives and work of proletarian women in various countries. China first publicly and officially celebrated International Women's Day in Guangzhou in March 1924, which was the honeymoon period of the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. Since the Chinese first celebrated International Women's Day in 1924, the festival has become an important venue for the Kuomintang and the Communist Party to lead the Chinese women's movement. International Women’s Day represents the revolutionary tradition and serves as a special public cultural space for China’s century-old women’s movement.
The United Nations has celebrated International Women's Day since 1975, International Women's Year, recognizing the tradition of ordinary women striving for equal participation in society. In 1997, the General Assembly adopted a resolution inviting each country to select a day of the year to be declared the United Nations Day for Women's Rights and World Peace in accordance with its own historical and national traditions and customs. United Nations initiatives have led to the establishment of a national legal framework for achieving equality between women and men and have increased public awareness of the urgent need to improve the status of women in all areas.
