Are there any taboos when the dragon raises its head?

1. Don’t eat noodles on February 2
The noodles are long and thin, like dragon whiskers. People in Beijing, Henan and other places are taboo about eating noodles on the second day of the second lunar month. It is said that eating noodles is like eating dragon whiskers, which will offend the Dragon King and will cause floods that year. People are not allowed to drink porridge or eat rice because they believe that porridge is dragon's blood and rice is dragon's egg. You can’t spin cotton, because “Spinning cotton on the second day of the second month will stain the dragon’s hair and claws.” Dragon claw means being struck by lightning. In some places, washing clothes is taboo for fear of damaging the dragon's skin. In Wucheng area, people are forbidden to go out before the sun rises, otherwise they will "kick the top of the granary" and destroy the hope of a good harvest for the year.
2. Women are not allowed to use scissors or needles
They were afraid of poking the longan's eyes and piercing its dragon's head; and they were also afraid of cutting it with a knife for fear of chopping its dragon's head. In addition, many places in Shanxi and Hebei avoid carrying water in the morning. It is believed that carrying water in the morning will bring the dragon back home. In Suide, Shaanxi, it is believed that carrying water in the morning will touch the dragon's head. Unlucky.
3. Avoid grinding flour on the same day
For fear of crushing the faucet, people in Dongming, Shandong, would clean the mill in the afternoon of the first day of February, prop up the upper and lower fans of the mill, and prohibit its use. Because the locals believe that the stone mill is a dragon head, the dragon head must be lifted up during the Dragon Head Festival. This custom continues to this day, although stone mills are no longer used to grind flour. All noodle-making machines had to stop operating for fear of "grinding the dragon head to pieces".

What does the dragon eat when it raises its head?

dumpling
Some dumplings are shaped like ingots, and some are shaped like ears. Eating dumplings on the day of the Dragon Raising its Head is called "eating dragon ears." On the day of "Dragon Raising its Head", people pay attention to eating "meat and vegetable dumplings", which have both meat and vegetables in the filling. The homonym of "meat and vegetables" is "wealth", which means "rich", and is a symbol of prosperity in the new year.
Fried oil cake
In some areas such as Beijing and Tianjin, people have the custom of eating fried cakes on the day of the Spring Dragon Festival, which is called "eating dragon gall". The fried cake is golden in color, so it is very vividly called dragon's thorn. The method is to grind millet into yellow rice, and then grind the yellow rice into flour, that is, yellow rice flour. The yellow rice cake made of yellow rice flour has four characteristics: "yellow, soft, chewy, and fragrant".
Spring rolls
Eating spring rolls is called "eating dragon scales", which is very vivid. A spring roll that is bigger than the palm of your hand is like a dragon scale. The spring rolls are chewy and filled with lots of vegetables. Such as braised pork, pork elbow, smoked chicken, braised duck, etc., cut into thin strips with a knife, and match with several home-cooked dishes such as shredded pork with leek sprouts, shredded pork with spinach, green bean sprouts cooked with vinegar, stir-fried vermicelli, scrambled eggs, etc., roll them together in spring rolls, dip them in shredded green onions and noodle sauce drizzled with sesame oil, which is fresh, fragrant and refreshing.
Pig head
In ancient times, pig heads were offerings to ancestors and to heaven. People in the north cook pig heads on the day of the dragon raising its head on the second day of the second lunar month, because the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month are over and the second day of the second lunar month is the last festival of the Spring Festival. Generally, farmers work hard all year round and then slaughter pigs and sheep on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month for the New Year. After the first lunar month, the pork slaughtered in the twelfth lunar month is basically eaten up, and only a pig head is left, which can only be eaten on the second day of the second lunar month.
