What is the origin of National Day?

The term "National Day" originally referred to national festivals and was first seen in the Western Jin Dynasty. Lu Ji, a writer of the Western Jin Dynasty, once recorded in his article "On the Five Ranks of Princes" that "National Day is the only one that enjoys its benefits, while the monarch worries about its harms." In my country's feudal era, the most important national celebrations were the emperor's enthronement and birthday (the Qing Dynasty called the emperor's birthday the Wansui Festival). Therefore, in ancient my country, the emperor’s accession to the throne and birthday were called "National Day". Today the anniversary of the founding of a country is called National Day.
At the first session of the first CPPCC in September 1949, it was decided to designate October 1 as National Day. The founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949 was one of the greatest changes in Chinese history. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon on October 1, 1949, 300,000 people held a ceremony in Tiananmen Square in Beijing to celebrate the founding of the Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China. Chairman Mao Zedong solemnly declared the establishment of the People's Republic of China and the Central People's Government, and personally raised the first five-star red flag. Chairman Mao read out the "Proclamation of the Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China": "The Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the people of the People's Republic of China. This government is willing to establish diplomatic relations with any foreign government willing to abide by the principles of equality, mutual benefit and mutual respect for territorial sovereignty." A military parade and a mass parade were then held. Commander-in-Chief Zhu De reviewed the navy, army and air force, and announced the "Order of the Headquarters of the Chinese People's Liberation Army", ordering the Chinese People's Liberation Army to quickly eliminate all remaining armed forces of the Kuomintang and liberate all territories that have not yet been liberated.

The customs of National Day include:

1. Decorate with lights and colors
Hanging lights and decorations is the most obvious sign of Chinese festivals, welcoming the annual National Day with a new atmosphere.
2. National Day holiday
In 1999, the state stipulated that people across the country would have a seven-day National Day holiday.
3. Free highways
Because there will be a 7-day long holiday during the National Day, students and office workers will use this holiday to go home or travel, so high-speed power is free during the National Day.
4. National Day Military Parade
A military parade is held on National Day every time a major celebration comes. The purpose is, firstly, to let the people know more about their country, and secondly, to demonstrate the national defense strength to the world.
