Halloween customs
1. Knock on the door and ask for candy:

Halloween night is the most "haunted" time of the year. The custom on that night is that children carry pumpkin lanterns, wear all kinds of costumes imitating monsters and go door to door and shout: "Trick or Treat!" (meaning "trick or treat!"). The host (who may also wear horror costumes) will give out some candy, chocolate or small gifts; if you don't give candy, the children will perform all kinds of pranks, such as dumping garbage into your house.
2. "Bite the Apple" game:
Another Halloween custom is the most popular "apple biting" game. During the game, people let apples float in a basin full of water, and then let the participants bite the apples with their mouths without using their hands. Whoever bites the apples first is the winner.
3. Game of Fortune:
In Ireland, there is a traditional divination game in which participants are blindfolded and have to choose one of several small plates on a table. If the plate they touch contains dirt, it means someone related to the participant will die in the coming year. If it contains water, it means they will travel far away. If it contains coins, it means they will get rich. If it contains beans, it means they will be poor, and so on. In 19th century Ireland, young girls would place slugs on a dish sprinkled with flour, and the trail of the slugs would resemble the girl's future husband.

The Origin of the Jack-O'-Lantern

There are at least two theories about the Jack-O'-Lantern.
One theory is that people hollowed out the pumpkin, carved a ghost face on it, and lit candles to drive away ghosts; another theory is that ghosts lit the candles in an attempt to trick people into following the ghost, so people carved a mocking face on the surface of the pumpkin to tease the ghost: Humph! Only a fool would be fooled by you.
Legend has it that because the first person to use pumpkin was an Irishman named Jack, people also call the ghost face pumpkin lantern jack-o-lantern.
