An introduction to the special Buddhist days in the eleventh month of the lunar calendar. How much do you know about these days?

1. The day of the death of Master Yin Guang, the 13th patriarch of the Pure Land School Time: the fourth day of the eleventh lunar month
Yin Guang (1862-1940) is a contemporary eminent monk of the Pure Land Sect in my country and the 13th Patriarch of the Lotus School. He was from Heyang, Shaanxi, and his common surname was Zhao. His name was Shengliang and his courtesy name was Yinguang. Another name is the monk who is always ashamed. He studied Confucianism when he was young and liked reading the books of Cheng and Zhu. He once opposed Buddhism and suffered blindness. Then he came to his senses and turned to studying Buddhist scriptures. With his utmost sincerity, his eye disease was cured.
The master promoted Pure Land Buddhism throughout his life, and in his actions he adhered to the three principles of "not being an abbot, not accepting disciples, and not taking the throne." He was indifferent to fame and wealth, lived a hard-working and frugal life, and always showed others the way of honest cultivation. At the age of seventy, he secluded himself in Baoen Temple in Wu County. At first he did not want to see guests, but later he began to give lectures to the public. He once compiled a book on the four famous mountains: Putuo, Qingliang, Emei and Jiuhua. He also rebuilt Lingyan Mountain Temple in Wu County, with Monk Zhenda in charge. It became the first Pure Land Buddhist temple in my country. In the 29th year of the Republic of China, he passed away in Lingyan Mountain Temple at the age of 79. After cremation, countless five-colored relic flowers and relic beads were obtained. The master had a broad moral character and excellent academic and behavioral qualities throughout his life. He had a wide influence and was hailed as the greatest Pure Land master since the Republic of China. The collection of Master Yin Guang's writings and the complete works of Master Yin Guang are circulated in the market. 2. Amitabha Buddha’s Birthday Time: 17th day of the 11th lunar month
Amitabha Buddha’s birthday is on the 17th day of the 11th lunar month. Amitabha is the leader of the Western Paradise. Abbreviated as Amitabha. The Sanskrit word amitā means immeasurable. Another Sanskrit name is Amitayus and Infinite Light. If people in this degenerate world do not accumulate good merits after death, they will be reborn in the six realms of reincarnation according to their karma. The six realms are the heaven realm, the human realm, the Asura realm, the ghost realm, the animal realm and the hell realm. They go round and round, always suffering in the six realms. Even if they are born in heaven, after enjoying all the pleasures of the gods, they will still descend to the human world and reincarnate again. When their karma is heavy, they will be reborn into the realm of animals or ghosts. The most unfortunate thing is to fall into the realm of hell and suffer for thousands of kalpas with no hope of escape. But as long as you chant the name of Amitabha Buddha diligently, at the time of death, Amitabha Buddha will personally lead you to the Western Paradise, where you will no longer suffer the pain of reincarnation.
Regarding the origin of the name of Amitabha Buddha, according to the Amitabha Sutra translated by Kumarajiva, this Buddha has infinite light and infinite life, so he is called Amitabha Buddha. However, according to the Sanskrit version of the Amitabha Sutra and the Sutra of Praise for the Pure Land Buddha, this Buddha has an infinite life span and boundless wonderful light, so he is called the Buddha of Infinite Life and the Buddha of Infinite Light. One Buddha has two names with different meanings, which is not seen in other Buddhas. In early sutras such as the Prajnaparamita Sutra, the Mahamutama Amitabha Sutra, and the Vimalakirti Sutra, there is only the title of Amitabha. Therefore, it can be inferred that the titles of Infinite Life and Amitayus were established by later generations based on the original meaning of the name. According to the Sutra of Equal Enlightenment, the later Amitabha Buddha Gāthā, the Sutra of Praise for the Pure Land Buddha, etc., Amitabha is known as the Infinitely Pure Buddha, and the world where he resides is called the Pure World and the Land of Ultimate Bliss.
