Should we use the Gregorian calendar or the lunar calendar to mark the beginning of autumn?

The date of the Beginning of Autumn is determined by the Gregorian calendar.
The 24 solar terms are part of the traditional lunar calendar, which is essentially a solar calendar. The commonly used Gregorian calendar is also a solar calendar. The two are naturally very consistent, but there is a fluctuation of 1-2 days.
The 24 solar terms are essentially the 24 fixed positions of the sun's apparent motion on the ecliptic (the ecliptic is divided into 24 equal parts, each 15°). The four most important ones are: the vernal equinox (0° ecliptic longitude, day and night are equal), the summer solstice (90° ecliptic longitude, the shortest shadow and the longest day), the autumnal equinox (180° ecliptic longitude, day and night are equal), and the winter solstice (270° ecliptic longitude, the longest shadow and the longest night).
After observing the equinoxes and solstices, the rest of the solar terms can be calculated. Therefore, the interval between each solar term is roughly 365/24=15 days (in fact, the earth's revolution is not at a constant speed, so it is not a simple division). But the solar term is an exact degree of ecliptic longitude, so the solar term is actually a precise time, not a day. It just means that when a solar term falls on a certain day, that day is called a certain solar term.
Therefore, the beginning of autumn is based on the Gregorian calendar rather than the lunar calendar.

Autumn is the season of alternating hot summer and cool cold. "Guan Zi" said: "In autumn, the yin energy begins to descend, so all things are harvested." After entering autumn, the climate transitions from the rainy, humid and hot summer to the dry and less rainy autumn. In nature, the yin and yang energies begin to change, the yang energy gradually recedes and the yin energy gradually grows, and all things gradually wither as the yang energy sinks. The most obvious change in autumn is that the leaves of grasses and trees change from lush green to yellow and begin to fall, and the crops begin to mature. The Beginning of Autumn was one of the "Four Seasons and Eight Festivals" in ancient times. People had the custom of worshiping the god of the land and celebrating the harvest.
