Is the summer solstice the longest day of the year?

Yes, the summer solstice is the day with the longest daylight in the year, but it is because of the angle at which the earth is illuminated by the sun, which is actually different in the northern and southern hemispheres.
Every year on June 21st or 22nd, the sun reaches 90° of the ecliptic longitude, which is the "Summer Solstice" solar term. According to the Kezun Xiandu Manuscript, "When the sun reaches its northernmost point, the day is at its longest and the shadow is at its shortest, so it is called the summer solstice. 'Zhi' means the extreme."
On the summer solstice, the sun reaches its northernmost point of the year, almost directly above the Tropic of Cancer (23°27' north latitude). The daylight in the Northern Hemisphere is the longest, and the daylight gets longer the further north you go.
For example, the day length in Haikou, Hainan is a little over 13 hours, in Hangzhou it is 14 hours, in Beijing it is about 15 hours, and in Mohe, Heilongjiang it can reach more than 17 hours.
After the summer solstice, the position of direct sunlight on the ground gradually moves southward, and the daytime in the northern hemisphere becomes shorter.

Do the days get shorter after the summer solstice?
