When is the Grain Full Moon in 2019?

Lunar calendar: April 17th Gregorian calendar: May 21st <br /> In the "Collected Explanations of the 72 Seasonal Changes of the Lunar Calendar", it is mentioned that "in the middle of April, the Grain Fullness, things are small and full at this time." The grains of the ripe crops in summer begin to mature and become full, but they are not fully mature yet, it is just Grain Fullness, not yet Daman. Therefore, this day is called "Xiaoman".
However, this is only the view in the North. But in the south, it has new meanings: "If Grain in Ear is not fully harvested, the field ridges will dry up" and "If Grain in Ear is not fully harvested, there is no need to care about it."

What are the customs and folk customs of Xiaoman?

1. Silkworm Festival
"Men farm and women weave" is a typical example of my country's farming culture. The raw materials for weaving are mainly cotton in the north and silkworms in the south. In ancient times, sericulture was extremely prosperous in the south, especially in Jiangsu and Zhejiang areas.
Because silkworms need to be pampered, the air, humidity, the cold, ripe, dry or wet of mulberry leaves will affect the survival of silkworms. April is the time to release silkworms, and it is said that Grain Full is the birthday of the Silkworm God. Therefore, during the Grain Full solar term, people in the Jiangsu and Zhejiang areas hold a Silkworm Prayer Festival, hoping that they will have a good harvest from their silkworms this year!
2. Sell new silk
In various parts of Jiangnan, when the Grain Full season comes, every household will wait until the silk is spun into thread, then carry it to the silk market in the city to sell it to silk collectors, and then sell it at the night market, which is called selling new silk.
3. Worship the Three Gods
"Sacrificing to the Three Gods" means that during the Grain Full season, people offer sacrifices to the gods in charge of the waterwheel, oxcart and silk cart, and pray for the gods' blessings, good weather and a good harvest!
The White Dragon is the legendary "God of Cars". At this time of year every year, farmers will hold a sacrificial ceremony before drawing water. Fish, meat, incense, candles and other offerings are placed on the car base for worship. A cup of white water is specially used as a sacrifice. During the sacrifice, the water is poured into the field, which means that the water source is prosperous!
4. Eat bitter vegetables
The Book of Zhou says: On the day of Grain Full, bitter herbs bloom.
Dandelion is one of the earliest edible wild vegetables and is found all over the country. It not only has high medicinal value but is also rich in nutrition . It has the functions of clearing away heat, cooling blood, detoxifying, eliminating carbuncle and pus, removing blood stasis and relieving pain . It also contains a variety of vitamins, minerals, bile alkaloids, sugars, riboflavin and mannitol needed by the human body. Long-term use can calm the mind, improve energy, make the body lighter and resist aging.
The taste of dandelion is bitter with a hint of astringency, and astringent with a hint of sweetness, but it can be eaten cold, pickled, stir-fried, etc., and can be processed and adjusted with various cooking methods. At the same time, it also has a certain effect on summer fever and is mostly used to treat fever in medicine. Moreover, bitter herbs were used as a hangover sobering ingredient in ancient times! Therefore, during the Grain Full season, you can eat more bitter vegetables, which are good for your body!
But remember! People with weak spleen and stomach should not eat it! It cannot be eaten with honey! !
5. See the wheat tips turn yellow
After Grain Full every year, the wheat gradually matures. In the Guanzhong area, every year when the wheat is about to mature, married daughters will visit their parents' home to ask about the preparations for the summer harvest. The local people call this custom "watching the wheat tips turn yellow."
There is also a farmer's proverb: "When the wheat tips turn yellow, the girl looks at her mother; when the yoke is taken off, the mother looks at her enemy." It not only summarizes the meaning of watching the wheat tips turn yellow, but also depicts the scene of the daughter returning to her parents' home to visit in a very interesting way.
6. Busy harvesting
For farmers, the Grain Full solar term is the busy farming time. Because in the fourth month of the lunar calendar, people in the provinces along the Yellow River are beginning to prepare for the wheat harvest; people in the Pearl River Basin are busy sowing autumn rice; and in the Northeast, it is the time to plant cotton, wheat, and soybeans. In addition, sorghum has just grown, so people have to weed out the weeds and cut out the poor quality seedlings, which makes the Northeast even busier. Therefore, we also call Xiaoman "busy harvesting".
