Analysis of sacrificial rituals:

1. Place food, bowls, chopsticks, wine glasses, tea and other offerings on the graves of ancestors, and then light three incense sticks in front of the graves.
2. Pour the first glass of wine after lighting the incense. After about 30 minutes or half of the incense is burned, one person will light three incense sticks for the second time and pour the second glass of wine.
3. When the incense is half burned, place offerings to the land god who looks after the grave, and then burn a piece of yellow paper to protect the ancestors from harm.
4. When the three incense sticks have burned out, remove the offerings and leave a small amount of money and other belongings to be burned on other graves to prevent other ghosts from stealing money and clothes from the ancestral graves after the people who visited the graves leave.
Things to note <br /> 1. Do not play around, run around, or mess around around the cemetery. Doing so is not only impolite, but also disrespectful to the ancestors.
Second, it is not advisable to wear bright red or bright green clothes, and pregnant women, the sick, and children under 7 years old should not go to sweep the graves.
3. What is usually said during the sacrifice: what you plan to do at the grave, why you do it, and the hope that the ancestors will bless you, and everything will go smoothly and peacefully.

Why do we offer sacrifices to the sea during Grain Rain?

“During the Grain Rain season, hundreds of fish come ashore.” Fishermen along the northern coastal areas of my country have been celebrating the Grain Rain Festival for more than 2,000 years. During the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty (1821), it was renamed the Fishermen’s Day. Fishermen who make a living by fishing have always believed that the Grain Rain season is when hundreds of fish come ashore, making it an auspicious day to go out to sea to fish. In order to pray to the gods for a smooth production at sea and full tanks of fish and shrimp, they would offer sacrifices to the gods (the Dragon King, the Goddess of the Sea) and hold various unique ceremonies on the day before going out to sea every year, which is the Grain Rain Festival.
In the eyes of fishermen, fishing tools, fishing boats, nets and other daily means of production each have their own gods. In order to pray to these gods to bless them with a smooth life at sea and a full warehouse of fish and shrimp, they offer sacrifices to the gods on the day before going out to sea every year, which is Grain Rain. This has led to the Grain Rain Festival's sea sacrifice ceremony.
For many years, local fishermen have lived by the sea from generation to generation. It is the sea that nurtured them, and they are full of attachment to and gratitude to the sea. Although fewer and fewer people make a living by fishing, more fishermen have not given up their diligent pursuit of a happy life. They "wash their feet on land" and start to engage in marine aquaculture, sea treasure seedling cultivation, seafood processing... For fishermen, sea sacrifice is a belief and a celebration.
