The origin of April Fools' Day:

Joseph Boskin, professor emeritus of American humor at Boston University, has expressed his own views on the historical origins of April Fools' Day. He believes that April Fools' Day originated from a joke. In 1983, Boskin said that the concept of April Fools' Day came from Roman clowns during the reign of Constantine I in Rome in the third and fourth centuries AD. It is said that the clowns successfully petitioned the ruler to allow them to nominate one of their members to become king one day. So, on April 1, Constantine I handed over the rule of the Roman Empire to one of his clowns, King Kujir. Kujil then issued a decree to designate April 1st as a day of absurdity forever. Boskin said that the news agencies at the time did not have much interest in this topic. "I think I should be praised for this bizarre story."
