Mid-Autumn Festival Taboos:

1. Avoid sexual intercourse. We have to start with the traditional Chinese concept that men are yang and women are yin. The first and fifteenth day of every month is the time when the moon is waning. The moon belongs to Yin, which is also called Yin deficiency.
2. Avoid evil spirits during outdoor activities. People who engage in outdoor activities on this day can wear red ropes or red underwear, but it is taboo to do anything related to ghosts and gods. Because on this day, the yin energy is at its strongest.
3. People with weak bodies should avoid the lunar calendar. People who are sick, have had a miscarriage, or are otherwise frustrated or have bad luck should avoid the moon on this day.
4. Men do not worship the moon. Fu Cha Dunchong of the Qing Dynasty wrote in Yanjing Sui Shi Ji: During the Mid-Autumn Festival, "most men do not bow to the moon. Therefore, a proverb in the capital says: 'Men do not worship the moon, and women do not worship the kitchen god.'" It is commonly believed that the moon belongs to the sun, and the moon goddess Chang'e is a woman. Therefore, only women (including girls) can worship the moon.
5. Avoid fruit cakes that are not round. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the whole family should gather together to eat mooncakes, which are also called reunion cakes. Eating them can keep the family together. In order to reunite the family, the fruit cakes for the moon worship must be round. Even if the melon and fruit mooncakes are cut, they must be in the shape of a crescent lotus petals.
6. There are other taboos among the people, such as not pointing at the moon and not letting the forehead be covered by hair.
