Emperor Taizong promised that after returning to the world of the living, he would give alms widely, so he issued an edict to the whole country to hold a banquet during the Zhongyuan Festival to give alms to all ghosts, so "Pudu" is also called "Pushi". From then on, it was passed down and became a custom over time.
