Therefore, several families need to work together to complete it. There were no high-quality zong leaves in the Shui Village area, and they had to be picked from the mountains 20 miles away. Therefore, when the zong leaves grew into large and thick leaves, the women in the village would invite the villagers to pick them together. Tie up the picked zongzi leaves in stacks and hang them on the floor to let them dry naturally. When you are going to make zongzi, take them down and soak them in water to make them soft. Making rice dumplings is women's job, so they have to invite good people to make them together at a certain house before the Dragon Boat Festival. The invited people are usually brothers' families, "people in the house" or neighbors who live nearby. These people live together, so it is more convenient to get materials and tools. There are generally white rice dumplings, peanut dumplings, bacon dumplings, etc. After wrapping and steaming, people used to place a bunch of them on a table or cabinet under the "ancestors" to pay respect to them. Now these rituals have been omitted, and people from each family are called in to eat as soon as the dumplings come out of the pot. This reflects the degeneration of people's collective memory. People no longer remember the significance of making rice dumplings or what their ancestors said. They only know that they have to make and eat rice dumplings on this day. Anyone passing by the door can get a share. Of course, the elderly people in their eighties or nineties in the village, especially those who were previously “five-guarantee households”, will definitely send someone to deliver it. After the rice dumplings are out of the pot, one should be hung on the kitchen window and kept hanging like this all year round.
