The Origin of May Day

International Labor Day, also known as "May 1 International Labor Day", "International Workers' Day" or "May Day", is a national holiday in more than 80 countries in the world. It is scheduled for May 1st every year. It is a festival shared by working people all over the world.
In July 1889, the Second International led by Engels held a congress in Paris. The conference passed a resolution, stipulating that international workers would hold a parade on May 1, 1890, and decided to designate May 1 as International Labor Day. In December 1949, the State Council of the Central People's Government made a decision to designate May 1 as Labor Day. After 1989, the State Council has recognized national model workers and advanced workers basically every five years, recognizing about 3,000 people each time.

The story of May Day

The show begins. On May 1, 1886, more than 200,000 workers in Chicago, the United States, went on a collective strike to fight for the implementation of an eight-hour work system. After a hard and bloody struggle, they finally won. From this it can be seen that May Day originally originated from the general strike of workers in Chicago, USA.
To commemorate this workers' movement, on July 14, 1889, the Socialist Congress convened by Marxists from various countries was grandly opened in Paris, France. At the conference, the delegates unanimously agreed to designate May 1 as the common holiday of the international proletariat. This resolution received positive responses and support from workers around the world.
On May 1, 1890, the working class in Europe and the United States took to the streets, holding grand demonstrations and rallies to fight for their legitimate rights and interests. From then on, working people from all over the world would hold rallies and parades to celebrate on this day, and it gradually became a custom.
The Chinese people's celebration of Labor Day can be traced back to 1918. At that time, some revolutionary intellectuals distributed "May Day" leaflets to the masses in Shanghai, Suzhou, Guangzhou and other places. On May 1, 1920, workers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities took to the streets and held massive parades and rallies.
