The third day of the third lunar month is the “Traditional Chinese Girls’ Day”?

The third day of the third lunar month is also known as Daughters' Day. Pan Rongbi's "The Imperial Capital's Annual Records" also says under the entry for "Duanyang": "This day is called the Girls' Day."
March 3rd is an ancient traditional Chinese festival, the Shangsi Festival, commonly known as March 3rd or the March Festival. Because there are many beautiful women by the water, it is a good day for men and women to express their feelings, so it is also the earliest Valentine's Day in China. At the same time, this day is also the birthday of Emperor Huangdi. There is an old saying in China since ancient times that "On the second day of the second month, the dragon raises its head; on the third day of the third month, Emperor Huangdi is born."
The third day of the third month in the lunar calendar is Shangsi Day. In ancient times, the first day of the third month of the lunar calendar was called "Shangsi", so this day is also called "Shangsi Festival". The third day of March is often the day of Si. On this day, people spread shepherd's purse flowers on the stove and where they sit or sleep, believing that they can kill ants and other pests; they hide shepherd's purse flowers and tung flowers in sweaters and feather coats, believing that the clothes can be protected from moths; women wear shepherd's purse flowers on their heads, believing that they can avoid headaches and sleep especially soundly at night.

Where does the third day of the third month in the lunar calendar come from?

As early as the Zhou Dynasty, on the first day of March (Shangsi Day), people would go to the waterside to offer sacrifices, called the Shangsi Festival, and bathe with fragrant herbs. Later people called it Xi. "The Book of Zhou Li Chunguan" says: "The witch is in charge of the annual purification ceremony and bathing to ward off disasters for people." This means: the witch is in charge of the annual purification ceremony and bathing to ward off disasters for people. Zheng Xuan's commentary said: "The annual purification ceremony is now on the third month of the lunar calendar, such as going to the water and taking a bath, which means bathing with scented herbs." In addition to its religious function, this day also produced unexpected benefits.
Since young men and women would gather at the riverside on this day, it provided an opportunity for the ancients to fall in love freely. The "Book of Songs: Zheng Feng Qin Wei" describes a young boy and girl falling in love during the purification ceremony. The Book of Song, Volume 2, quoted the Book of Han, saying, "In Zheng, on the third month of the lunar calendar, on the day of the third month, people would go to the Qin and Wei rivers to summon souls and spirits, holding orchids to brush away bad luck."
Of course, on such occasions of gatherings of young men and women, girls would dress up best, until it gradually evolved into the "Girls' Day". After the Song Dynasty, Neo-Confucianism prevailed, etiquette became increasingly strict, and the customs of the Shangsi Festival gradually declined in Han culture.
