Qingming Festival is an important traditional festival in my country. "Spring flowers are flying everywhere in the city, and willows are leaning in the east wind on Cold Food Festival" is the Qingming painting brought to us by ancient poets. Qingming Festival certainly has many traditional customs, but there are also many food customs. The most famous one is the Qingming Cold Food Feast. Chinese people are particularly particular about food, so naturally, all kinds of delicious food are indispensable for Qingming Festival. They often have unique symbolic meanings. Let’s learn about them together. From ancient times to the present, people have believed that eating eggs on Qingming Festival will keep one healthy for the whole year. The origin of eating eggs on Qingming Festival actually comes from my country's custom of banning fire. During the many days of fire ban and cold food, boiled eggs are the best food reserve to get through this period. Of course, the eggs during Qingming Festival can not only be eaten but also played with. There are two ways to play with them. One is "painted eggs". The colorfully painted eggs have a unique beauty and can be eaten after playing. The other type is "carved eggs", which are just for people to appreciate. Many areas in South China have the custom of eating Qingtuan. The dough is kneaded with the juice of an edible wild plant "wheatgrass", and the dough gives off a faint plant fragrance. It is then wrapped with delicate sugar bean paste. The Qingming Qingtuan has a cool and refreshing taste and is the most favorite specialty food during the Qingming Festival. Eating Sanzi during Qingming Festival is a custom common throughout the country. "Sanzi" was called "Hanju" in ancient times and is a non-greasy fried food. The custom of abstaining from fire and eating cold food during the Cold Food Festival is no longer popular in most parts of my country, but the Sanzi associated with this festival is deeply loved by people all over the world. The production process of Sanzi is also different between the southern and northern regions, which is more in line with the tastes of local people. Qingming Rice is a traditional dish that has been passed down in my country for a long time. On the eve of Qingming Festival, people go to the wild to collect or buy herbs in order to make Qingming Rice. The herbs commonly used to make Qingming rice include mugwort, Qingming vegetable (Bai Gongweng), shepherd's purse, wolfberry leaves, etc. Wash, remove the stems and cook the herbs you need. Mix them with the glutinous rice (add an appropriate amount of rice) that has been soaked and drained in advance. Use a pestle and mortar to make rice balls. Add brown sugar and rub well. Make rice cubes and steam them until cooked. Date cake was originally one of the special delicacies of Qingming Festival in my country, but nowadays date cake is deeply loved by people, so it has gradually entered people’s lives, and sometimes you can even see it in bakeries. Date cake is also called "Zitui cake". In ancient times, it was strung together with willow branches and hung on the door. It could be eaten cold to commemorate Jie Zitui's noble quality of not seeking fame and fortune. There is a custom of eating green onions and egg pancakes during the Qingming Festival in southern my country, especially in Qingdao in the south, which symbolizes cleverness. In the old days, people in Qingdao would make dough flowers on Qingming Festival, which were called "steamed little swallows", and eat white flour chickens and eggs, symbolizing the arrival of spring. In some places, students would bring eggs to their teachers on Qingming morning to show their respect. In addition, mustard rice, Pu Zi cake, pancake, Zitui steamed bun, warm mushroom bun, and mugwort cake are mostly traditional foods for the Qingming Festival. However, they are often distributed in certain areas or among ethnic minorities and are not widely spread and therefore not well known. Therefore, I will not go into details here.
