What is the saying about eating pears during the Waking of Insects?

During the Jingzhe season, the weather is warm but cold, and the climate is relatively dry, which can easily cause people to have dry mouth and tongue and cough. Raw pears are cold in nature and sweet in taste. They have the effects of moistening the lungs and relieving coughs, nourishing yin and clearing away heat. Therefore, there is a folk custom of eating pears during the Waking of Insects. In addition, pear and “li” are homophones for “li”, which means to keep illness away from the body.
There are many ways to eat pears, such as eating them raw, steaming, juicing, roasting or boiling them. Steamed pears with rock sugar, in particular, have a good effect on coughs and are simple and convenient to make. You may as well eat them as a dessert. In addition, patients with cough can also eat lotus seeds, loquats, monk fruit and other foods to relieve pain. The diet should be light, and greasy food is best not to eat. Irritating food, such as chili peppers, onions, garlic, and pepper should also be eaten less.

Where does Jingzhe come from?

It can be seen from a large amount of historical materials that the name of the solar term after the beginning of spring was not "Qingzhe" but "Qizhe". Rainwater comes after Qizhe. From the historical reasons for changing "Qi" to "Jing", we can understand that the name of "Qi Zhe" was changed to "Jing Zhe", and the sequence position of Qi Zhe and Rain Water was changed, which was all done in the Han Dynasty.
During the reign of Emperor Wen of Han (named Liu Heng, 179-157 BC), the grandfather of Emperor Wu of Han, in order to avoid the taboo of the word "Heng" in Liu Heng's name, the word "Heng" in Lao Tzu's 5,000 words "Tao can be spoken of, but it is not the constant Tao; name can be named, but it is not the constant name" was forcibly changed to "Chang". This term has been used in the 5,000-word popular version of the Tao Te Ching to this day, and no one has ever given it a proper name. Coincidentally, Emperor Wu of Han's father was named Liu Qi (156 BC - 141 BC). In order to avoid his father's name, Emperor Wu of Han changed the "Qi" in "Qi Zhe" among the 24 solar terms into "Jing". From then on, "Qi Zhe" became "Jing Zhe". The original meaning of the solar terms names gradually lost.
When later scholars studied the solar terms, they did not know the whole story and so they took it for granted and made far-fetched assumptions about the relationship between the word "惊" (shock) and spring thunder. They artificially made the names and order of the solar terms conform to the laws of nature, which not only confused themselves but also successfully confused future generations. However, from the perspective of the changes in the energy of nature and the levels of changes in the Five Elements and Six Qi, Qi Zhe can never be used after the Rain Water, because rain can only fall when the dragon moves.
