If you want to know more about the first month of the lunar calendar in 2018, please pay attention to our fortune teller website! What should we prepare for worshipping the God of Heaven on the ninth day of the first lunar month? The offerings for worshiping the God of Heaven have different characteristics on the top table and the lower table. The top table is dedicated to the most honorable God of Heaven, and mainly consists of vegetarian food; the lower table is dedicated to the gods under the God of Heaven, and therefore mainly consists of non-vegetarian food such as the five animals. The top table should be prepared with a pair of flowers, a pair of candles should be lit, and three teacups should be placed in front of the incense burner and filled with tea. The vegetarian offerings on the top table include three bundles of rice noodles tied with red paper (they can also be boiled and divided into three bowls, with a piece of brown sugar placed on each bowl), five fruits (such as citrus, apples, melons, sugar cane, bananas, etc.), six vegetarian dishes (such as golden needles, black fungus, shiitake mushrooms, vermicelli, potatoes, and red dates, which represent the five elements of gold, wood, water, fire, and earth). In addition to the six vegetarian dishes, some people can also add dry ingredients such as Chinese cabbage, peas, mung beans, bean wheels, gluten, and sesame to make twelve, twenty-four, or thirty-six bowls of vegetables, as well as sugar towers and sugar cups. The meat offerings on the lower table are five kinds of animals (such as a whole chicken, a whole duck, a whole fish, a whole pig, a whole sheep, or fish roe, pork or pork stomach, or boiled pork); in addition, there are red tortoise cakes, sweets (such as rice dates, sweet cakes), etc. What are the rules for worshipping the God of Heaven? The tradition of worshipping the God of Heaven originated from the Ming Dynasty. According to legend, during the Lunar New Year of the Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates were killing people, setting fires, and looting property along the coast of Fujian. The villagers fled for their lives, carrying the elderly and children with them. When the villagers fled to a remote wilderness in the dark night, they saw that the Japanese pirates were about to catch up with them. Everyone was terrified. Suddenly, a large sugarcane forest appeared in front of them. The villagers fled into the sugarcane forest to hide, avoiding the Japanese pirates and escaping the gates of hell. That day happened to be the ninth day of the Lunar New Year. The villagers who escaped believed that it was God who saved their lives, so every year they would worship the God in the early morning of the ninth day of the Lunar New Year to thank him for saving their lives. And worshiping sugarcane also means not forgetting the sugarcane forest that saved our lives.Another legend is that there was a general named Meng in ancient times. When he went to a place, as long as he drank the local water, he would be able to speak the local language. He used this ability to identify the Han people. But when he arrived in Fujian, his subordinates actually gave him water from other provinces to drink, and as a result he could not learn to speak Fujian dialect. He thought that Fujianese were not Han Chinese, so he ordered a massacre, resulting in countless Fujianese deaths. On the ninth day of the Lunar New Year, the water shipped from other provinces had run out. General Meng then drank water from Fujian and began to speak Fujian dialect. Only then did he realize he had killed the wrong person and immediately ordered his knives to be put down. The people of Fujian believed that this was a gift from God, allowing them to escape the disaster, so they worshipped God to express their gratitude in the early morning of the ninth day. |
