When is Teachers' Day in 2017?

Teachers' Day 2017 is September 10, Sunday, the 20th day of the seventh lunar month <br /> The purpose of Teachers' Day is to raise people's awareness and appreciation of the contributions made by teachers to education. In 1931, educators Tai Shuangqiu, Cheng Qibao and others held a rally at the Central University in Nanjing, issued a declaration demanding "improving teachers' treatment, protecting teachers' jobs and enhancing teachers' cultivation", and agreed that June 6 would be Teachers' Day, also known as Double Six Day. Soon, the government first agreed to June 6 as Teachers' Day, and then changed Teachers' Day to the Gregorian calendar.

What is the origin of Teachers' Day?

On January 21, 1985, the Ninth Session of the Standing Committee of the Sixth National People's Congress passed a resolution to designate September 10 of each year as my country's Teachers' Day.
Respecting teachers and valuing education is a fine tradition in China. As early as the Western Zhou Dynasty in the 11th century BC, it was proposed that "disciples should serve their teachers with the same respect as they would their fathers." Confucius, the great ancient educator, left behind a series of wise sayings such as "there is no distinction in teaching," "review the old to learn the new," and "learn and practice it from time to time." Teachers who impart knowledge and answer questions are praised by the Chinese as engineers of the human soul.
In fact, as early as 1932, the Nationalist government designated June 6 as Teachers' Day. After liberation, June 6 was abolished as Teachers' Day and "May 1 International Labor Day" was used as Teachers' Day instead. However, there are no separate activities for Teachers' Day and it has no characteristics. Teachers' Day was set on September 10th because it was the start of a new school year for universities, middle schools and primary schools across the country and schools needed a new atmosphere. From the moment new students enter school, they should respect teachers and attach importance to education, which can create a good atmosphere for "teachers to teach well and students to learn well". September 10, 1985 was the first Teachers' Day restored in China. From then on, teachers had their own holiday.
