Koi Fish Introduction

1. Koi has an elegant swimming posture, beautiful body, bright colors and brilliant patterns. It is called "living gem in the water" and is a larger fish with high ornamental value. Many families choose to raise koi to decorate their home environment.

2. The body shape of koi is similar to that of carp, between carp and silver carp. Its body is laterally flattened and spindle-shaped, with bright colors and varied patterns on its surface. Its body is divided into three parts: head, trunk and tail. There is a mouth at the front end of the head, with two pairs of barbels at the corners of the mouth, eyes on both sides of the middle part, a cyst above the eyes, and gills behind and below the eyes. From the trunk to the sound-producing part, the pectoral fins, dorsal fins, pelvic fins, anal fins and caudal fins grow in sequence. The fish body is covered with scales, and there is a lateral line on each side of the body running from the posterior edge of the gill cover to the sound stalk.

3. The differences between different varieties of koi include not only color and patterns, but also their external shapes and scales.

Feng Shui Positions for Raising Koi

The east represents success and development. As the red luck of the whole body is concentrated at one point, it is best placed in the east to replenish energy. The west always represents money and social status. Since the west is where the sun sets and lacks the quality of "gold", placing golden koi in the west is the best way to attract wealth and good fortune. The south and north represent fame and family respectively. The south should be warm, but not exposed to strong light. The koi raised should be able to capture sunlight and store heat. Therefore, red and white or three-color koi are the most beneficial for feng shui in the south because of their rich colors and soft light. In the north, where light is the worst and Yin energy is too heavy, it is most suitable to place a pair of black carp to absorb Yin and ward off evil.

Choosing the right number of koi

When raising Feng Shui Koi, the number is extremely important. The most common practice is to use nine rules. According to Chinese tradition, nine is the most supreme and yang number and has an extremely noble meaning. In Feng Shui, there is a saying that "three threes are endless, six sixes are infinite." Six red-topped stripes represent "good luck throughout the years," and five red and white stripes represent "five blessings coming to the door." As for the sayings of "Three Goats Bring Good Luck" and "Two Dragons Playing in the Water", they are also widely circulated. Koi are raised to improve feng shui. Three, six, five, nine and two are all auspicious numbers.
