Will the Little New Year in 2022 be the Chinese New Year?

The 2022 Little New Year falls on the 23rd/24th of December in the lunar calendar ; on the 25th/26th of January in the Gregorian calendar, 2022, Tuesday/Wednesday
Xiaonian is the beginning of the Chinese New Year, which refers to the period from the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, so Xiaonian is the first day of the Chinese New Year .
Xiaonian is a festival for sweeping the house and worshiping the kitchen god. It is generally believed to be on the 23rd or 24th day of the twelfth lunar month. As a celebration before the New Year, this festival represents the beginning of the busy year, so it is called Xiaonian.
The concept and date of Xiaonian vary from place to place. In the north it is the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month, and in most parts of the south it is the 24th day of the 12th lunar month. In Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, the 24th day of the 12th lunar month and the night before New Year's Eve are both called Xiaonian. In Nanjing, the 15th day of the first lunar month is called Xiaonian. In some parts of Yunnan, Xiaonian is on the 16th day of the first lunar month. In some parts of the southwest and north, Xiaonian is on New Year's Eve.

Can I spend New Year’s Eve at my parents’ home?

Married women should not spend the New Year's Eve at their parents' home.
In the past, people believed that a married daughter became a public servant, so it was not appropriate for her to return to her parents' home on important holidays such as the Little New Year and the Spring Festival.
During the Chinese New Year (from the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month to the 15th day of the 1st lunar month), if a married woman wants to go back to her parents' home, it is best for her to bring her husband back on the 2nd and 11th days of the 1st lunar month.
Of course, many people nowadays are not so particular, so if both your parents-in-law and your parents-in-law don’t mind, you can still go back as long as you let them know in advance. However, if the government has a tradition of worshiping the Kitchen God, it is best to stay and help.
