Customs of March 3

1. Zhuang
March 3rd is an important festival for the Zhuang ethnic group in Guangxi. On this day, people mix plant juice with glutinous rice to make five-color glutinous rice, which is a symbol of good luck. It is said that eating this kind of rice can keep one healthy. On the third day of the third lunar month and after the autumn harvest, people in some ethnic minority areas of Guangxi will spontaneously organize a firecracker grabbing movement. In addition, the Zhuang people also hold singing festivals on March 3rd. During each singing festival, young men and women from dozens of miles around gather at the singing venue, and the young men sing with the girls they like under the guidance of the singing teacher.
2. Li Nationality
The third day of the third lunar month is a traditional auspicious festival for the Li people to commemorate their ancestors, celebrate the new life, praise life and pursue love. Every day, people get up early. Women are busy pounding glutinous rice to prepare food for the festival. Girls go up the mountain to pick leaves for dyeing rice. Men go up the mountain to hunt with dogs and go into the water to catch fish. Every household kills chickens, buys meat and prepares wine. The girls put on their best clothes, wear gold and silver, and sing and dance to celebrate the annual March 3rd Festival. During the March 3rd Festival every year, the Li people in Sanya, Baoting, Lingshui and other places offer pig heads, rice wine and rice balls as sacrifices, and go to Sanya Luobi Cave, Ganshiling Cave and other places to pray to their ancestors for peace.
3. Buyi people
March 3rd is the Buyi people's village-sweeping and mountain-worshipping festival. During the sacrifice, any loud noise and talking are taboo in the temple and the village. When sharing the sacrificial offerings after the ceremony, the soup or crumbs must not drip onto clothes, otherwise, when going up the mountain to chop wood or do other work, you will be attacked by jackals and wolves, and your livestock will be harmed by tigers and leopards. On the day of the mountain sacrifice, outsiders are strictly prohibited from entering the village. If outsiders come to "step on the mountain", the mountain sacrifice will not be effective, which indicates a disaster. The "person who steps on the mountain" must take full responsibility or pay to sacrifice the mountain again. July 15th is the "Ghost Festival". The Bai people meet their ancestors on this day, so they avoid going out, otherwise it would be unlucky to encounter ghosts on the road.
