What are the customs on the fifteenth day of the twelfth lunar month in 2020?

1. Worship the Jade Emperor and pray for peace
On the fifteenth day of the twelfth lunar month, the custom of worshipping the Jade Emperor is prevalent in many places. This is an important part of the Spring Festival.
According to the elders, the Jade Emperor's surname was Zhang and his name was Jian. He was smart and kind when he was young, and he was benevolent and compassionate when he grew up. After he inherited the throne, he governed the country well.
Soon after taking office, he gave up the throne to his ministers, lived deep in the mountains, and practiced Buddhism with great devotion. After going through 132 million tribulations, he finally achieved enlightenment and was promoted to the Jade Emperor in heaven, in charge of protecting and benefiting all living beings.
The specific method is to ask a learned old man to write a "peace document" with a brush. The general content is: a certain county, a certain place, and a certain person, on behalf of the whole family, pray to the Jade Emperor for peace.
2. Eating dumplings
On the afternoon of the 15th day of the twelfth lunar month, every housewife is busy chopping stuffing, kneading dough, and making dumplings. The husband must use a special "paper pounder" to make a copper coin-shaped mark on the burning paper before the sun sets.
The paper for burning must be arranged neatly, and the money stamps on it must not overlap. If they do overlap, it is said that the paper becomes useless waste paper.
Before dinner, the greedy children had already swept the yard clean. The adults placed an offering table in an east-west direction about two meters in the center of the door, put three bowls of cooked dumplings on the table, and placed newly bought chopsticks on the top of the bowls in a north-south direction, praying to the Jade Emperor to bless them with peace.
Dumplings are offered on the altar, and the "peace document" and paper money are burned together. Wine is poured, and the family members kneel in front of the altar, put their hands together, look up at the sky, kowtow three times devoutly, and then start to eat the dumplings happily.

What are the New Year customs after the 15th day of the twelfth lunar month in 2020?

——Twenty-third day of the twelfth lunar month:
The 23rd day of the 12th lunar month is also known as Little New Year's Eve. It is the day for worshiping the kitchen god, sweeping the house, and eating kitchen sugar in traditional Chinese culture. The folk song "Twenty-three, sticky sugar melons" refers to the Kitchen God worship on the twenty-third or twenty-fourth day of the twelfth lunar month every year. After the Kitchen God Festival, preparations for the New Year officially begin.
——Twenty-fourth day of the twelfth lunar month:
The custom of "dusting and sweeping the house on the 24th day of the twelfth lunar month" has a long history. Folk legend says: Because "dust" and "old" are homophones, sweeping the dust during the New Year has the meaning of "getting rid of the old and bringing in the new". Its purpose is to sweep away all the "bad luck" and "bad luck". It expresses people's desire to get rid of the old and establish the new and their prayers to say goodbye to the old and welcome the new.
——Twenty-fifth day of the twelfth lunar month:
Grinding the mill to make tofu, "腐" and "福" have similar pronunciations, and making tofu means "harvesting happiness and blessings in the New Year." In ancient times, the main folk activities of the Han nationality on this day included welcoming the Jade Emperor, lighting the fields for silkworms, the Thousand Lantern Festival, and getting rid of the chaotic year.
Nowadays, most people do not make tofu themselves, but often stick the cut “Fu” character upside down on windows or doors, which expresses the same meaning, hoping that “happiness and good fortune” will come to the home.
——Twenty-sixth day of the twelfth lunar month:
On this day, people slaughter pigs, cut meat, and start preparing for the New Year. In ancient times, the so-called slaughtering pigs meant killing the pigs raised at home; the so-called cutting meat meant that poor families who did not raise pigs went to the market to buy meat for the New Year.
"New Year's meat" requires eating braised pork. Meat itself represents wealth, and braised pork can better represent a prosperous and wealthy year ahead. A bowl of steaming braised pork with the aroma of meat is what many people look forward to on this day.
——Twenty-seventh day of the twelfth lunar month:
A folk proverb says, "On the 27th day of the twelfth lunar month, people slaughter chickens and go to the market." On this day, every household slaughters their own poultry and goes to the market to purchase goods.
Compared with the market on ordinary days where the main purpose is to buy what is in short supply and sell what is in surplus, the market on the 27th day of the twelfth lunar month is mainly for buying and selling New Year items, such as firecrackers, spring couplets, incense and candles, burning paper, beef and mutton, various gifts for children, and various head ornaments for girls. On this day, markets everywhere are very busy and lively.
——Twenty-eighth day of the twelfth lunar month:
On the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month, every household starts preparing staple food for the New Year, whether it is making dough or steamed buns.
In the past, social development was underdeveloped and there was no modern convenient baking powder. Ordinary noodles made a few days in advance would easily go bad, but leavened dough was not prone to going bad.
Therefore, on the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month, the dough is fermented to prepare the staple food for the first to fifth days of the first lunar month. This is also the reason why the old custom holds that fire should not be used to steam buns during the first to fifth days of the first lunar month.
——Twenty-ninth day of the twelfth lunar month:
Since the next day is New Year’s Eve, all preparations for the New Year must be completed on this day. In the entire New Year festival, the 29th day can be said to be the busiest day.
In addition to preparing various food, clothing and sacrificial offerings for the New Year festival, there is also an extremely important activity on the 29th day of the twelfth lunar month: "visiting the tombs and praying to the ancestors." Offering sacrifices to ancestors is not only a way to comfort them, but also an expression of gratitude and longing for them.
——New Year’s Eve:
New Year’s Eve is the last day of the year. There are many folk activities on this day, such as making dumplings, eating New Year’s Eve dinner, burning gold paper, setting off firecrackers, etc. Staying up on New Year's Eve is one of the most important traditional activities during the Chinese New Year, and the custom has a long history.
"One night connects two years, and the fifth watch divides two days." On New Year's Eve, the whole family gathers together, eats the New Year's Eve dinner, lights candles or oil lamps, sits around the stove and chats, waiting for the moment to bid farewell to the old and welcome the new. This custom gradually became popular.
