Why does the Dragon Boat Festival commemorate Qu Yuan?

The origin of the Dragon Boat Festival is not because Qu Yuan committed suicide by jumping into the river, but Qu Yuan’s hometown has a very important connection with the Dragon Boat Festival, so the Dragon Boat Festival is held to commemorate Qu Yuan.
After Qu Yuan jumped into the Miluo River, one night, people in Qu Yuan’s hometown suddenly dreamed that Qu Yuan had returned. He wore a tall hat and a wide belt, just as he had been in life, except that his face looked a little sad and haggard. The villagers were very happy and came forward to salute him. While returning the greeting, Qu Yuan said with a smile: "Thank you for your hospitality. The people of Chu are so clear about what they love and hate and have not forgotten me. I have no regrets in my death." When they said goodbye and talked about the past, everyone found that Qu Yuan's health was not as good as before, so they asked with concern: "Doctor Qu, did you eat the rice we sent you?" "Thank you." Qu Yuan was grateful at first, then sighed and said: "What a pity. The rice you gave me was eaten by aquatic creatures such as fish, shrimp, turtles and clams. "After hearing this, the villagers were very anxious: "How can we prevent the fish and shrimp from eating it?" Qu Yuan thought for a while and said: "If we wrap the rice in bamboo leaves and make it into a pointed cornflower, the aquatic creatures will think it is a water chestnut and will not dare to eat it.
On the Dragon Boat Festival of the following year, the villagers wrapped many glutinous rice dumplings in bamboo leaves and threw them into the river. But after the Dragon Boat Festival, Qu Yuan appeared in his dream and said: "I have eaten a lot of the glutinous rice dumplings you sent me, but many of them were snatched away by aquatic creatures." Everyone asked him again: "Is there any good way?" Qu Yuan said: "There is a way. You can put a dragon mark on the boat that drops the glutinous rice dumplings. Because the aquatic creatures are under the jurisdiction of the Dragon King, when the drums and horns sound and the oars move, they will think that the dumplings were sent by the Dragon King and will never dare to snatch them again." Glutinous rice dumplings are now called rice dumplings.
