Eat flower cakes: As the weather is getting colder, the trees, flowers and plants are about to wither, so people call this "saying goodbye to green." People climb mountains and eat flower cakes on the ninth day of the ninth month. Because "高" and "糕" are homophones, the cakes for this festival are called "重阳花糕", which means "progress step by step". The main types of flower cakes include "brown flower cake", "fine flower cake" and "money flower cake". Some coriander leaves are stuck as a mark, and dried fruits such as green fruits, small dates, and walnut kernels are sandwiched in the middle: Xihua cake has 3 layers or 2 layers, and each layer is sandwiched with thinner candied dried fruits, such as apple preserves, peach preserves, apricot preserves, black dates, etc.; Money flower cake is basically the same as Xihua cake. According to the traditional Chinese medicine theory of "nourishing yang in spring and summer, nourishing yin in autumn and winter". At this time, people should nourish yin, prevent dryness, moisten the lungs and benefit the stomach. Therefore, the custom of "eating sesame seeds during Cold Dew" came into being among the people. In Beijing, sesame-related foods become popular items around the time of Cold Dew, such as sesame crisps, sesame and mung bean cakes, and sesame baked buns.
6. Cricket fighting is popular in Beijing. The White Dew, Autumnal Equinox and Cold Dew are the peak periods for cricket fighting among old Beijingers. Crickets are also called "crickets". Generally speaking, hearing crickets chirping means autumn has arrived and the weather is getting cooler, reminding people to prepare clothes for winter. Hence the saying "When crickets chirp, lazy women are startled." According to records, cricket fighting began during the Tianbao period of the Tang Dynasty.
