National Day Origin Introduction:

The term "National Day" originally refers to national celebrations. The earliest time was in the Western Jin Dynasty. In the article "On the Five Ranks of Princes", there was a record that "On National Day, only the ruler enjoys the benefits, while the ruler worries about the harm." In ancient times, my country called the emperor's accession to the throne and birthday "National Day". Nowadays, the anniversary of the founding of a country is called National Day!
October 1, 1949 is the anniversary of the founding of New China. However, it is necessary to point out here that in many people's minds, the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China was held in Tiananmen Square in Beijing on October 1, 1949 with the participation of hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians. But this was not the day when the new China was founded. In fact, the founding of the People's Republic of China was announced a week before October 1st. So it was called the "National Day" instead of the "National Day". The actual founding day of New China was September 21, 1949. On this day, Chairman Mao, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, announced the birth of New China in his opening speech at the first session of the CPPCC.
So what about the National Day on October 1st? At the first meeting of the First National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Xu Guangping said in a speech: "Committee Ma Xulun has asked for leave and cannot come. He asked me to say that the founding of the People's Republic of China should have a National Day, so he hopes that this conference will decide to designate October 1 as National Day." Mao said: "We should make a proposal and recommend it to the government, and let the government decide." On October 2, 1949, the Central People's Government adopted the "Resolution on the National Day of the People's Republic of China", which stipulated that October 1 of each year would be the National Day and designated this day as the day proclaiming the founding of the People's Republic of China. From then on, October 1st of every year became a festival celebrated grandly by people of all ethnic groups across the country.

The evolution of National Day:

In the early days of the People's Republic of China (1950-1959), large-scale celebrations and military parades were held every National Day.
In September 1960, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council decided to reform the National Day system in line with the principle of building the country through diligence and thrift. From then on, from 1960 to 1970, grand rallies and mass parades were held in front of Tiananmen Square every National Day, but no military parades were held.
From 1971 to 1983, Beijing celebrated National Day on October 1 every year with large-scale garden parties and other forms of celebration, but no mass parades. In 1984, on the 35th anniversary of the National Day, a grand National Day military parade and mass celebration parade were held. In the following decade, other forms of celebration were adopted for National Day, and no more National Day military parades or mass celebration parades were held.
On October 1, 1999, the 50th anniversary of the National Day, a grand National Day military parade and mass celebration parade were held. This was the last grand National Day celebration held by the People's Republic of China in the 20th century.
