Offering sacrifices to the White Tiger to resolve disputes <br /> The ancients regarded the White Tiger as the king of beasts, able to drive away evil and harm. Every year on the Waking of Insects Day, people offered sacrifices to the White Tiger to drive away insects and avoid pests. At the same time, among the twelve zodiac signs, some of them will be affected by the White Tiger and Heavenly Dog evil spirits. Later, it gradually evolved into the zodiac signs that offend the White Tiger and Heavenly Dog, or people who feel unlucky and have been offended by villains will worship the White Tiger on the Waking of Insects Day, praying for a peaceful and smooth year and to drive away villains and diseases. The so-called white tiger sacrifice refers to the worship of a white tiger drawn on paper. The paper tiger is usually yellow with black stripes, and has a pair of fangs painted at the corners of its mouth. Then you can hit it.
According to Chinese folklore, the White Tiger is the god of gossip and disputes. Every year, it comes out on this day to hunt for food and bite people. If you offend this, you will be bullied by evil people throughout the year, hindering your future development and causing all kinds of misfortune. In order to protect themselves, people offered sacrifices to the White Tiger on the day of Jingzhe. The so-called white tiger sacrifice refers to the worship of a white tiger drawn on paper. The paper tiger is usually yellow with black stripes, and has a pair of fangs painted on the corners of its mouth. During worship, the paper tiger is fed with fat pig blood so that after it is full it will not speak ill of others. Then raw pork is smeared on the mouth of the paper tiger so that it is filled with oil and water and it cannot open its mouth to speak ill of others.

How to offer sacrifice to the White Tiger during the Jingzhe Festival?

Jingzhe is the third solar term after the Beginning of Spring. There is an agricultural proverb that says "soak seeds (grain) and beans during Jingzhe". It is also the time when spring thunder sounds, and all kinds of ferocious beasts and pests wake up after hibernation. After the Hakka people migrated from the Central Plains to the south, they lived in the mountains and dense forests. When they were reclaiming the barren mountains for farming and planting, they were often disturbed by wild beasts, such as tigers that hurt people and animals, and wild boars that ate crops. Their crops were eaten by pests, such as locusts and rice planthoppers that harmed crops, and they suffered greatly from the pests of wild beasts and insects. In order to avoid these disasters, the Hakka people chose to hold the custom of "worshiping the white tiger to drive away pests" on the day of Jingzhe, the first day of farming.
At the entrance to the mountains, people set up an altar between a large rock with a crack under a tall tree beside the mountain and the field. On the day of Jingzhe, they make cakes with fat meat and grains (hemp, wheat, rice, beans, millet), and place a "white tiger" (the white tiger is the king of beasts) cut out of white paper in the shape of a tiger and seeds of grains in front of the altar, light incense and candles, and the farmer stands in front of the altar and worships three times devoutly, chanting "During the Jingzhe season, thunder sounds, wild beasts are killed and insects are killed, and good weather comes to take care of us. In the next day, rice and millet will bloom, soybeans and beans will grow in a 'doulou', and kudzu (white) and red kudzu will grow in a 'zhuala'". Then they put incense sticks on the altar and rub the fat meat on the cracks in the rocks, hoping that the white tiger will be full and will not hurt people or animals. Then they use wooden sticks to hit the big rock to show their intent to scare the tiger away. At the same time, the "paper white tiger" is burned, and finally the grains are scattered on the fields and a layer of lime is sprinkled on them to kill pests. After the ritual of "worshiping the white tiger and killing insects", farmers return home and start various preparations for spring ploughing and planting.
