Plus, we had eaten Yuanxiao the morning before, so eating anything sweet would have been too much. The most authentic way to eat it is salty. After the New Year pig is slaughtered, the big earthen pot of meat that is stewed in the stove starts in the afternoon of the first day of the New Year. It is prepared for cooking bait blocks early the next morning.
