The Fortune Teller website has compiled a special article about the Double Ninth Festival for everyone, let’s take a look together! During the Double Ninth Festival, Chinese people have a traditional custom of drinking chrysanthemum wine. In ancient times, chrysanthemum wine was regarded as an "auspicious wine" that must be drunk on the Double Ninth Festival to ward off disasters and pray for blessings.
The Double Ninth Festival falls on the occasion when chrysanthemums are in full bloom, so it was once called the "Chrysanthemum Festival" in ancient times. Drinking chrysanthemum wine on the Double Ninth Festival is also a folk custom that was popular in ancient times. Jiujiu is homophonic with "long", which means "long" and "wine", hence the saying that Jiujiu should drink chrysanthemum wine.
The production of chrysanthemum wine has been popular in my country since the Han and Wei dynasties. According to Xijing Miscellaneous Records, "When chrysanthemums bloom, stems and leaves are picked and mixed with millet to make a brew. It is not until September 9th of the following year that it is ripe and people drink it, so it is called chrysanthemum wine."
According to "Xijing Miscellaneous Notes Yi Ji" written by Ge Hong of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, during the reign of Emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty, people in the palace "wore dogwood on September 9th, ate lotus seeds, and drank chrysanthemum wine. It is said that this makes people live longer." According to the "Continued Records of the Strange Things of Qi" written by Guan Jun of the Liang Dynasty in the Southern Dynasties, "On the ninth day of the ninth month..., drink chrysanthemum wine and disasters will be eliminated." This is the beginning of the old custom of celebrating the Double Ninth Festival and drinking chrysanthemum wine.
"Continued Records of the Strange Things in the Western Han Dynasty" says that Huan Jing of the Eastern Han Dynasty studied Taoism with Fei Changfang for many years. One day, Fei Changfang told Huan Jing that on September 9th, a disaster would happen to his family. He should rush back home and ask everyone in the family to make a bag filled with dogwood and tie it on their arms, then go up to a high place and drink chrysanthemum wine to ward off disaster and avoid disaster. Huan Jing followed his advice, and his whole family was spared from the epidemic. This almost mythical story reflects people's earnest desire to avoid plague and seek health, and also illustrates the status of chrysanthemum wine in the hearts of ancient people.
Because chrysanthemum wine can dispel wind and heat, nourish the liver and improve eyesight, and reduce inflammation and detoxify, it has high medicinal value. Li Shizhen, a medical scientist in the Ming Dynasty, pointed out that chrysanthemum has the effects of "curing headaches, improving eyesight and ears, removing fistulas, and curing all diseases." According to the above statements, this chrysanthemum wine with a long history has been passed down to this day. Every Double Ninth Festival, people will open a pot of chrysanthemum wine and taste it during the festival. Modern people are paying more and more attention to health preservation. When eating or drinking, they pay attention to whether these foods have an impact on people's own health, whether it is good or bad.
Chrysanthemum wine is made from chrysanthemum, glutinous rice and koji. It was called "longevity wine" in ancient times. It tastes cool and sweet, and has the effects of nourishing the liver, improving eyesight, strengthening the brain, and delaying aging. Chrysanthemum Wine Chrysanthemum is used to make wine. From a medical point of view, chrysanthemum wine can improve eyesight, cure dizziness, lower blood pressure, and has the effects of losing weight, slimming the body, replenishing liver qi, calming the stomach and intestines, and promoting blood circulation. Tao Yuanming's poem says "The departing swallows leave no trace, the returning geese leave their calls. Wine can cure a hundred diseases, and chrysanthemum can prevent aging." This praises the disease-curing and life-prolonging effects of chrysanthemum wine. The preparation method is simple. Just remove the stems of the dried chrysanthemums, wash and dry them, then soak them in low-alcohol grain wine and you can drink it after one or two days. Regular drinking can promote blood circulation and qi, resist aging, and prolong life; if you add rehmannia, angelica, and wolfberry to the wine, it will have a good effect on dizziness, fatigue, and dreaminess. Drinking a small amount on a regular basis is good for your body.
