When is Teachers' Day? What is the origin of Teachers' Day?
Introduction: Han Yu explained in "On Teachers": "In ancient times, every scholar must have a teacher. A teacher is someone who teaches, accepts students, and resolves their doubts." We have so much gratitude for the teachers on the three-foot-high podium. They not only taught us how to read and write, but also taught us the principles of life. Let us learn about the specific time evolution and origin of Teachers' Day. The seventh month of the lunar calendar has arrived, and life is gradually entering a new mode. When is Teachers' Day?

Teachers' Day aims to recognize the contribution made by teachers to education. In modern Chinese history, Teachers' Day has been celebrated on different dates many times. It was not until 1985 that the Ninth Session of the Sixth National People's Congress Standing Committee passed the State Council's proposal to establish Teachers' Day, and September 10, 1985 was truly determined as the first Teachers' Day in China.

What is the origin of Teachers' Day?

A group of students from Jinan University rode their bicycles north to submit a proposal to the Ministry of Education and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League to establish Teachers' Day. A year later, the State Council decided to set September 10th of each year as Teachers' Day. From then on, teachers in mainland China also had their own holiday. Teachers' Day is one of only three industry-specific holidays in our country, along with Nurses' Day and Journalists' Day. Since 1931, my country has had four Teachers' Days with different dates and natures in different historical periods.
The earliest Teachers' Day in Chinese history was in 1931. At that time, educators Tai Shuangqiu, Cheng Qibao and others held a rally at Nanjing Central University, issued a declaration demanding "improving teachers' treatment, protecting teachers' jobs and enhancing teachers' cultivation", and agreed to designate June 6 as Teachers' Day, also known as Double Six Day. Soon after, the Kuomintang government first agreed to designate June 6 as Teachers' Day. However, in view of the fact that the June 6 Teachers' Day was spontaneously organized by teachers, it later changed the Teachers' Day to August 27 (Confucius' birthday) and issued the "Interim Measures for the Commemoration of Teachers' Day", but it was not implemented nationwide at that time.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Central People's Government restored June 6 as Teachers' Day. The Ministry of Education notified educators across the country that they could organize celebrations based on actual conditions. In 1951, the National Education Union was established and educators were recognized as part of the working class. On April 19, 1951, the Minister of Education and the Chairman of the All-China Education Union National Committee issued a written statement announcing that May 1 International Labor Day was also Teachers' Day. However, due to the lack of teacher characteristics on this day, the implementation results were not ideal. Especially after 1957, under the influence of "leftist" ideas, teachers were not valued and Teachers' Day actually no longer existed.
In order to carry forward the fine tradition of "respecting teachers and valuing education" and improve the status of teachers, the Ninth Session of the Standing Committee of the Sixth National People's Congress on January 21, 1985 decided that September 10 of each year would be China's Teachers' Day. On the first Teachers' Day, the then President Li Xiannian sent a letter of congratulations to teachers across the country to congratulate the holiday. A celebration meeting of tens of thousands of people was held in the capital. During the Teachers' Day, 20 provinces and cities commended a total of 11,871 provincial-level outstanding teacher groups and individuals.
In fact, as early as 1932, the Kuomintang government designated June 6 as Teachers' Day. After liberation, June 6 was abolished as Teachers' Day and "May 1 International Labor Day" was used as Teachers' Day instead. However, teachers did not have separate activities and no characteristics. Teachers' Day was set on September 10th because it was the start of a new school year for universities, middle schools and primary schools across the country and schools needed a new atmosphere. From the moment new students enter school, they begin to respect teachers and attach importance to education, which can create a good atmosphere for "teachers to teach well and students to learn well". September 10, 1985 was the first Teachers' Day restored in China. From then on, teachers had their own holiday.
The spirit of respecting teachers quickly spread throughout the Central Plains, and every teacher has an irreplaceable holiday of his or her own. And every teacher will express his blessings and gratitude to his teacher reverently, faithfully and solemnly on the countless festivals that belong to his master. Later, things changed. People found that the leading and great figures in the academic world would always receive the most worship and gratitude, because their disciples were spread across every corner of the country, even including masters who lived in seclusion in the mountains. Under the etiquette culture of respecting and learning from teachers, Taishan-level figures quickly became famous in the world, academies, fields and markets.
Later, people were surprised to find that the person they were burning incense and kneeling to worship on a certain day was actually the same person. It turned out that this man had already accepted all the scholars in the world as his disciples. In fact, this was a very long process, but overnight he became the master of the world, a great man, a saint, and even a god. The so-called Teachers' Day is probably fixed on a certain day at this point in time.
Summary: Through the above article, we have a deep understanding of the time and origin of Teachers' Day. We hope that everyone will have a deeper understanding and love for Teachers' Day!
