Feng Shui Stories: "Oil Lamp Determination of the Burial Site" - Interesting Feng Shui Stories of the "Three Su" in the Song Dynasty
Introduction: When we were young, we loved to lie on the knees of our elders and listen to them tell stories from the past. There are many, many stories circulating among the people, which are very exciting. Myths, ghost stories, Feng Shui stories and so on. In this issue, let’s talk about the Feng Shui story “Determining the Burial Site by Using an Oil Lamp” and the Feng Shui anecdote of the “Three Su’s” in the Song Dynasty. Let’s take a look together! Folk wisdom is compiled into stories, including many Feng Shui stories. Let’s take a look at them. The "Three Su's" are a family of talented men famous throughout the world in the Song Dynasty of China. Their home is located in Renshou County, Leshan City, Sichuan Province. There is also an interesting Feng Shui story about their ancestors.

Su Xun Su Laoquan's grandfather was a Buddhist monk at that time, also known as "White Lotus Taoist". He had a close friend named Jiang Shan, who was a famous Feng Shui master at that time. Jiang Shan travels to famous mountains and rivers every two years to search for dragons and caves. After returning, he always goes to the Taoist temple of Taoist Bai Lian to rest and practice.

One day, Jiang Shan was playing chess with Taoist Bai Lian, and suddenly Jiang Shan asked, "Do you want a Feng Shui treasure land?" Before Taoist Bai Lian could speak, Jiang Shan continued, "This time I came back from my travels, and I found two Feng Shui treasure lands. One piece of land can make you richer than Shi Chong, and the other piece of land can make you more valuable than the world, as valuable as a prime minister. I can only give you one of these two pieces of land, so you can choose it yourself!"

Taoist Bai Lian thought for a moment and said, "I am a late-life monk. I have a son who is still studying at home. I don't want to seek wealth and honor. I will be satisfied as long as my descendants are virtuous."

Jiang Shan thought for a moment and said, "Neither of these two plots of land is suitable, but last time I found a good piece of land in Xianger Mountain, Pengshan County. It is believed that it will produce outstanding scholars. I will give it to you. We will set out to take a look tomorrow morning."

Taoist Bai Lian was very happy after hearing this.

So, at dawn the next day, the two set out. After more than ten days' journey, they arrived at the Feng Shui treasure cave of Xianger Mountain in Pengshan County. This place is surrounded by four mountains. The dragon comes in like a general going into battle, riding a horse and holding a single sword. The Tanlang Peak rises from the top of the dragon. The green trees are beautiful and charming. The hall is wide, and the front mountains are facing each other layer by layer. Upwards, there is a Wenbi Peak, piercing the clouds. A small stream meanders through the forest, flows upward and disappears to the left and rear. Standing on the peak, a light whistle is sounded, and the empty valley shakes. The sound is clear and swirling, and echoes in the valley for a long time. The burial site is at the top of the mountain. This location is usually used in the big back burial method (called "Dingtian Cave" in Feng Shui terminology). A small hole about one meter in size is opened at the burial site, with green grass on all sides and a melodious breeze.

Taoist Bai Lian was very happy to see this scene, but he sighed: "The hole is high and I am afraid that the eight whites will shake."

When the geomancer Jiang Shan saw this, he knew what he was thinking, so he squatted down, took out an oil lamp from his bag, lit it and gently placed it over the hole. Although the wind was blowing from all directions, the lamp did not move at all.

Jiang Shan pointed to the spot where the lamp was placed and said, "This is the best place to bury the tomb. You can't move away from it. Only if you are buried here can your family produce a great writer. No other place can be a good place to bury the tomb. If you don't believe me, just try it."

To be on the safe side, Taoist Bai Lian repeatedly tested the place where he thought a burial site could be located with an oil lamp, but the lamp would always be blown out by the wind. Only then did he truly admire Jiang Shan's superb Feng Shui skills.

A year later, Taoist Bai Lian's mother passed away, and he buried her at the acupuncture point pointed by Jiang Shan. Soon, Jiang Shan came to the Taoist temple again and went to investigate his mother's tomb with Taoist Bai Lian.

After seeing it, Jiang Shan sighed and said, "There is still a small mistake. Let me help you correct it." Then Jiang Shan started his own ritual and added a lot of soil to the left side of the grave.

A few years later, Bai Lian Taoist's son Su Xun became an official for his literary talent, and he also produced Su Shi and Su Zhe. They are all famous for their poems and songs. Among the "Eight Great Masters of Tang and Song Dynasties", three are from the Su family alone.

This story of "locating the burial site with an oil lamp" is still circulated throughout Sichuan. This shows that Feng Shui held a very high status among the Chinese people and the imperial court. Under the temptation of Feng Shui and the guidance of the Feng Shui master, even the Taoist Bai Lian, who is pure-hearted and indifferent to fame and fortune, cannot remain indifferent. Although he did not want his descendants to be rich and powerful, he hoped that they would be wise and knowledgeable. This belief produced three great talents in the Chinese literary world, and his contribution was also great. Of course, in addition to the effect of Feng Shui, everything is inseparable from the hard work of the three Su brothers and their special talents, which made them outstanding talents.
