Is Christmas Really Jesus’ Birthday?

Christmas, as the name suggests, is of course a festival to celebrate the birth of Jesus. There is no doubt about the relationship between this festival and Jesus. The word Christmas in English comes from the Old English word Crīstesmæsse, which means Christ's Mass.
Noël in French, Natale in Italian and Navidad in Spanish are more directly related to "birth".
Santa Claus is probably the favorite person among children during Christmas, but he actually comes from pagan traditions.
It’s a pity that for such an important festival, there is actually no clear evidence that it is the day of Jesus’ birth.
The Bible does not clearly state the exact day Jesus was born. The content about the birth of Jesus in the New Testament mainly appears in two gospels - Matthew and Luke.
Although the content of Jesus' birth occupies a considerable amount of space in both Gospels, they mainly describe how Mary became pregnant and how various miracles occurred, and do not spend too much time on the specific time of Jesus' birth.
Even the two Gospels are vague about the year in which Jesus was born. Both Matthew and Luke place the birth of Jesus during the reign of Herod the Great, King of Judea, between 37 and 4 B.C.
However, the Gospel of Luke attributes the reason why Joseph and Mary were driven back to Bethlehem from Nazareth before the birth of Jesus to the requirement of household registration by Quirinius, the governor of Syria.
However, Quirinius became governor of Syria in 6 AD. Obviously, there are contradictions in the Gospels regarding the specific year of Jesus' birth.
It is generally believed that there was an error in the Gospel of Luke, but some theologians believe that there is nothing wrong with the record in the Gospel, and that Quirinius' household registration may have happened before he became the governor of Syria.
The two Gospels are completely silent about the time of year when Jesus was born. The only indirect evidence is a description of the environment - sheep grazing near Bethlehem when Jesus was born.
However, since research on the climate in the ancient Bethlehem area has not yet been able to fully determine whether there were pastures in Bethlehem for sheep to graze in the dead of winter, the effectiveness of this indirect evidence is very limited.
All in all, the exact year and day of Jesus' birth is still an unresolved issue. If modern people can't solve it, it would have been even more impossible for the ancients. So how did Christmas become fixed on December 25th?
The earliest record that sets Jesus' birth date as December 25th is the "Chronicle of 354 AD" written by a Roman Christian.
There was no particularly solid theological reason for the selection of this date; instead, the choice to celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25 may have simply reflected pagan traditions.
